Artist Statement

I use trees as a metaphor for human beings. I assemble my pieces with thread, tiny pieces of fabric and needles. The tiny pieces of fabric represent our inner fibers, the layers we cover ourselves with, and the first textures we are all in touch with since birth. The needles and the thread allude to the duality of human beings. Needles puncture, yet serve to sew pieces together. Threads can be tightened, yet can be torn. The threads aligned vertically allude to the abacus and the passage of time. The suspended pieces create a consciousness of what is prone to change, and the shadows projected on the walls and floors create an illusion of what is and what is not, depending on the point of view of the observer.

Utilizo los árboles como símbolo, por los significados que tienen, la metáfora con el ser humano. El árbol como individuo tiene raíces, se alimenta, se cubre y se transforma, al mismo tiempo que es afectado por su entorno. Constantemente estoy ampliando el lenguaje utilizando nuevos materiales y aprovechando su simbología, plasmando muchos matices de la vida que nos enredan, confrontan y compenetran. Parto de la humanidad y su complejidad evolutiva dentro de la sencilla similitud del sentir...que es universal.
